Abby

General Manager

*CrossFit Level 1

*Rowing Erg Course Certified

Abby Jung has been involved in different dimensions of fitness since middle school. She believes in the power of positivity and encouragement. Abby believes in the theory of working smarter, not longer. “With focus on proper technique, we make health and fitness goals attainable and enjoyable! I love challenging and encouraging people out of complacency.” She wants people to know anyone can do CrossFit. “There’s a misconception about CrossFit that everyone is already in shape when they join and we focus mainly on strength. That’s not true. Many people can’t do a pull up or a proper air squat when they join!” Abby safely used CrossFit during her 2 pregnancies and understands the importance of scaling options. Abby enjoys working with athletes of all different levels: people who are wanting to become fit to live long healthy lives, and people who want to compete. Abby placed 9th in the state in the masters division during the 2017 CrossFit open.

Abby’s Favorite Movement: squats - any type! You get the most bang for your buck with the full body movement.

Ryan

*Head Coach

*CrossFit Level 2

*USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Certified Coach

Ryan Schaefer holds a B.S. in Biology and Exercise Science.  He began his coaching career as a personal trainer where he worked with a variety of individual and team athletes. Ryan believes training should be fun. “Coaching enables me a way to help a large population learn to be better each and every day.” Ryan is constantly researching and learning new things and eager to share them with those around him. He drops lots of knowledge bombs during his classes- you’ll grow physically AND mentally with this guy.

Ryan’s Favorite Movement: Sprints, squats, and wall balls

Brandon

*CrossFit Level 1

As a CrossFit coach and a Chiropractor, Brandon Meye is focused on keeping people safe. In his practice he is focused on sports injury, rehab, and wellness. “It’s important to know when to turn up the intensity and push people. It’s equally important to know when and how to scale appropriately to accommodate an injury, mobility issue, or new member.” He has been doing CrossFit for three years and practicing chiropractic for six years. Brandon is a strong believer of practicing what you preach which is why he does the WODs himself, focuses on form and moving well, gets regular maintenance adjustments, and counts his macros.

Brandon’s Favorite Movement: handstand walks and his favorite strength is front squat even though it’s not a movement that came natural to him. He loves the WOD Fran (for some crazy reason).

Katy

*CrossFit Level 1

*CrossFit Gymnastics Cert

Katy Tillman is determined to make the most out of any training session, whether it’s her own training session, or her members’. Focused on mechanics and proper form, she understands the value in building a solid foundation of proper technique before building strength and skill. A student to the sport herself, Katy brings a true love for CrossFit to the gym. She loves the competition side of CrossFit and competes in many local competitions including the Granite Games in Minnesota. Her passion and desire to raise all athletes, no matter their level, led her to get her CFL1 and CrossFit Gymnastics Certification.

Katy’s Favorite Movements: Burpees (she’s CRAZY)

Sylvia

*USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Certified Coach

*CrossFit Level 1 Certified Coach

*Safesports Certification

*CPR Certified

*USADA 2019 Coach Advantage

Sylvia began her love for Olympic Weightlifting after watching her first local meet in 2014. She has competed in several local and state meets, placing her as the Wisconsin state record holder for Masters in her weight class.

She enjoys working with individuals that are new to the sport and her ultimate coaching goal is to have her athletes reach their fullest potential to qualify for Nationals. Her interest in sports and fitness has her constantly learning about strength and nutrition to fuel for performance.

In her spare time, Sylvia plays on several softball leagues, coaches her daughter's sport teams, and is the biggest cheering fan for her boys’ teams. If you’re trying to get out of doing burpees, she can always be bribed with donuts, a cup of coffee and funny memes.

Danielle

*CrossFit Level 1

*USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Certified Coach

Danielle joins CrossFit Bark River as a CF-L1 trainer after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Sports Science from Benedictine University (BenU) in 2018. Danielle has a strong passion for Olympic weightlifting and has been a part of 2 CrossFit gyms since she found her love for it in 2014.

She has a very energetic and determined mind set and refuses to let anyone slack off! With a good sense of humor, passion for the sport, and love for the movements, she’ll make the hardest workouts something you look forward to crushing whenever they come up.
